Celebrating National Learning and Development Month with Houston Back on Track

Career Development

October is National Learning and Development Month, and here at Houston Back on Track, we believe in the importance of education and skill development in starting a new career journey. Whether you're looking to transition into a new career or want to improve your existing skillset, Houston Back on Track has you covered.

Skill development is often underestimated on the road to career readiness, but it is undeniably important. The skills needed for different roles today range from soft, digital and hard and to industry-specific. Our community partners offer various programs that identify the skills you may want to brush up on before your next interview and can assist you in developing them in just hours or a few days.

WorkFaith’s on-demand IMPACT program teaches soft skills like problem-solving, adaptability, conflict resolution and teamwork. The Wesley Community Center offers a financial stability program that provides personalized financial coaching and educational resources to individuals and families. These resources equip participants with the knowledge to budget and maximize their finances when planning their move to a new career.

Organizations like the Houston Area Urban League offer two-week programs providing foundational learning classes such as Intro to Pipeline Safety, Intro to the Power Industry, Alternative Energy and Fall Safety Protection. Participants are also eligible for free OSHA 30 certification in just two weeks!

Skill-building is key, and Houston Back on Track will connect you to the organizations that will ensure you're ready to go to your next interview. It's time to get excited about development opportunities offered here in Houston and know your career dreams are within reach. If you’re ready, visit the Houston Back on Track website and click “get started.” Filling out the contact form is the first step to being connected with a career coach who will work with you to set goals and provide the resources you need to launch your career journey.
